Is Elden Ring down? How to check Elden Ring server status explained
Is Elden Ring down? If you've seen the 'inappropriate activity detected - returning to title menu' error message, here's what you need to know.
If you've been playing Elden Ring, you'll know that its online multiplayer component – where you can read messages from other players and even summon them for boss battles – is a big part of the fun.
But this does mean that there are Elden Ring servers that need to remain healthy in order for the game to stay online.
Sometimes, though, things go wrong and you'll need to check the Elden Ring server status.
You might be seeing the 'network status check failed' error message every time you try to boot up the game, or you might get kicked out of your game and shown a message that reads 'inappropriate activity detected - returning to title menu', or you could've fallen prey to some other server issue in the game.
So, what's going on right now with Elden Ring servers? Does it have anything to do with the incoming Elden Ring DLC? Keep on reading to find out what's going on with the game's online component today!
Is Elden Ring down? Planned downtime announced
Yes, Elden Ring is currently down, the developers have confirmed.
In a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), the Elden Ring developers announced that Elden Ring would be going offline at 8am BST on Thursday 20th June.
This downtime should be ending at 11am BST on Thursday 20th June, with the social media post confirming that this downtime should only last three hours.
Check back shortly, then, and you might find that the servers are back in business!
And yes, this update is all about bringing the Elden Ring DLC into the game. Shadow of the Erdtree, here we come!
How to check Elden Ring server status explained
To check whether Elden Ring is down at any point in the future, your best bet is to look in on the official Elden Ring Twitter account, where the developers will surely let you know if anything major is going on in terms of outages or planned maintenance.
Also on Twitter, you could search the words 'Elden Ring server' and see if anyone else is experiencing and reporting the same issue as you. If they are, there are probably some technical issues afoot and you'll just have to wait for them to be fixed.
It's also worth checking the news section on the Bandai Namco website, where the game's publishers are known to post updates on Elden Ring performance.
Elden Ring does not yet have a page on the community-created Down Detector website, where users can log their issues with popular games and services, but that same website does have a page about Dark Souls Remastered — click that link to see it.
Considering that Dark Souls and Elden Ring share a developer, one could assume that problems with one would also be reflected in the other, so that Down Detector page is another thing to bear in mind if you're worrying about the Elden Ring server status.
Offering an alternative to Down Detector, Elden Ring does have a page on Down For Everyone or Just Me. There you should be able to see if any players are having problems at the same time as you.

Elden Ring 'network status check failed' error message explained
If you're seeing the Elden Ring error message that reads 'network status check failed', you might be pleased to know that this error doesn't have anything to do with your personal console or PC.
This error message means that the Elden Ring servers are overloaded and you cannot currently be loaded into the multiplayer servers for the game. There is no fix that you can deploy at your end.
However, you should be prompted to load Elden Ring in offline mode, which should mean that you can still jump into the game. You'll just have to go it alone without co-op partners to lean on. Gulp!
Elden Ring 'inappropriate activity detected - returning to title menu' error message explained
Another Elden Ring error message that seems to be going around a lot is 'inappropriate activity detected - returning to title menu'.
If you've seen this and been turfed out of the game, but you swear you weren't doing anything dodgy, what gives? Will you be able to get back into the servers? Have you been banned for some unknown reason?
Those are questions that lots of fans seem to be asking, but there doesn't appear to be an official answer just yet. If that changes, we'll let you know. It might be best to take a little break and try to log back in later.
